Why Brand Strategy Fails Before It Starts
Most brand strategy projects fail not in execution but in the brief. The problem is usually a confusion between brand identity and brand strategy. Identity is what you look like. Strategy is who you are, who you serve, and why you matter more than the alternative. When clients brief an agency for brand strategy and receive a logo system, they have been sold the wrong thing.
The most durable brands we have worked with started with a single, honest answer to an uncomfortable question: what do we believe that our competitors are unwilling to say out loud? That answer becomes the centre of gravity around which everything else organises.
Brand strategy is not positioning. It is not a tagline. It is a decision about what your organisation will stand for, consistently, even when it is inconvenient. That decision has to be made by leadership, not delegated to a consultant and filed away.
