Experiential Marketing in Africa: What Actually Works
The most effective activations we have run across West Africa share one thing in common. They gave people something worth talking about that was also worth being seen at. In markets where word of mouth is still the most powerful media channel, the activation is not the event. The event is the content the attendees produce and share.
This changes the design brief entirely. You are not designing an experience for the people in the room. You are designing shareable moments for the people who were not there. Every element of the activation, from the backdrop to the product display to the ambient sound, has to be considered through the lens of what it looks like in a photo and what story it tells in a 30-second video.
The brands we have activated most successfully understood that attendance is a media metric, not a success metric. The success metric is secondary reach, the conversations that happen after the event is over.
