The Lagos Consumer is Not a Monolith

Lagos is a city of 20 million people and at least that many worldviews. Brands that treat it as a single market make the same mistake as treating New York as one audience. The Lekki consumer and the Mushin consumer may both be in Lagos, but they have different relationships with aspiration, value, trust, and belonging.

The most effective brand strategies we have built for Nigerian market entry start with a brutal segmentation exercise, not demographic but psychographic. What does this person believe about themselves? What do they want others to believe about them? What role does this category play in that story?

Premium positioning in Lagos is not simply about price. It is about legibility. A brand must communicate not just quality but the right kind of quality, in the right register, to the right people. Get the register wrong and even a genuinely superior product can feel inaccessible or irrelevant.
